Costa Coffee, the second largest coffee outlet in the world, is on the brink of being sold to Coca-Cola.
Whitbread, which also owns Premier Inn hotels, plans to sell the coffee chain to concentrate on its hotel business.
How will this affect your morning coffee run? Well, it’s not likely to. It’s thought that Coca-Cola will use the acquisition to expand the chain here, whilst also looking to develop the brand in the states.
There are also rumours that Coca-Cola may now look to add a coffee drink to their range.
We may not all immediately swap our coke for a cold cappuccino, but the deal has gone down well with the markets – shares in Whitbread are up 14%.
